Health food retail · Bloomingdale, IL

A shop that will tell you what is in the bottle.

THE FRUITFUL YIELD, INC. operates health food shops in Illinois. We buy vitamins, daily supplements and whole foods, put one markup on them, and train the counter to answer questions rather than to sell up.

Most of what separates one supplement from another is printed on the back of the bottle in small type: the form of the nutrient, the other-ingredients line, the count, the expiry. Our staff are there to read that with you. What they will not do is tell you what to take, because that belongs with your clinician and not with a shop.

On the shelves

What the shops carry

Six departments, bought centrally so every shop holds the same list at the same price. A short list bought in depth is the only reason the markup can stay where it is.

Everyday basics

Multivitamin and multimineral tablets and capsules for adults, including versions without added iron.

Single nutrients

Individual vitamins and minerals, with the specific form on the label rather than only the element name.

Oils

Fish and algae oils, each with the oxidation figure for its own batch, and seed-pressed options for anyone avoiding marine sources.

Plant extracts

Standardised extracts only, where the marker compound and its percentage are stated on the label.

Digestive everyday

Fibre, and live cultures whose counts are given for the end of the shelf life rather than the day they were packed.

Whole foods

Dry goods, nuts, seeds and grains, sold loose by weight where the supplier allows it.

What we turn away

Suppliers pitch us every week. This is published so you can hold us to it, and so nobody has to ask twice.

  • Weight-loss products of any description.
  • Gym and performance ranges, and anything marketed with a body on the label.
  • Beauty supplements, meaning anything sold on what it will do for skin, hair or nails.
  • Any product whose own box says it treats, cures or prevents something.
  • Proprietary blends that give one total figure without saying how it splits.
  • Anything resting on a single small study and a press release.

Spot something on our shelves that belongs on this list and email info@fruitprobe.com with the item. That counts as an error by our buyer, and the line comes off the shelf. How a product gets approved in the first place is set out on the company page.

Counter questions · checked September 22, 2026

The questions we are actually asked

The same two dozen questions come over the counter most days. Rather than leave them to chance, they are written out below with the answers underneath, in full and not hidden behind a click.

If the one you want is missing, send it to info@fruitprobe.com and we will answer it and add it here.

Prices

Why is the same bottle cheaper down the road?

Usually because it is not the same bottle. Two products can carry an identical front label and differ in the form of the nutrient, the count, or the lot's age. The comparison worth making is per day and per form, not per bottle.

Sometimes, though, it is simply cheaper elsewhere, and we will say so. If you show us a lower price on a like-for-like item from a shop you can walk into, we will tell you honestly whether we can match it. Often we cannot.

How do you set a shelf price?

What the delivery cost us, plus one markup that is the same across the whole shop. No category quietly subsidises another and no item is priced up in order to be discounted later.

Prices follow the cost of the next delivery, so they fall as well as rise. A change applies from the day new stock is booked in and never backwards to something you already bought.

Is there a loyalty price or a members' rate?

No. One price for everybody who walks in. The weekly offers are a genuine reduction against the shelf price, for a stated week and a stated item, and they end when the week does.

Labels

What should I read on the label before I buy?

Four things, in this order, and none of them are on the front of the bottle.

  • The Supplement Facts panel. The authoritative statement of what is in it. It beats anything written anywhere else, including this website.
  • The form of the nutrient. A label that names a mineral without naming the salt is not telling you enough to compare it with anything.
  • The other-ingredients line. Binders, capsule shell, colourings. This is where an allergy problem hides.
  • The expiry. Particularly on oils and live cultures, where it is not a formality.

Ask at the counter and somebody will read the whole panel to you before you decide. That is a normal request and nobody minds.

What is a proprietary blend, and why do you not like them?

It is a list of ingredients with one total milligram figure covering all of them, so you cannot tell whether the expensive ingredient is most of the blend or a pinch. We do not stock them. If a supplier will not break the figure out, there is usually a reason.

Can you tell me who made it?

Yes, and the shelf label already does. We name the maker and the facility rather than only the brand on the front, because a retailer that hides who made a thing is asking you to trust the shop instead of the maker. Send us a lot number at info@fruitprobe.com and we will tell you the maker and the expiry for that exact batch.

Advice

Can you tell me what I should take?

No, and we will not guess at it. Our staff can read you a label, explain what a form of a nutrient means, tell you the count and the expiry, and say whether a lot has been tested by a third party. Those are shopkeeping questions and they get straight answers.

Whether something suits you is a different question and it belongs with your own clinician, who knows what else you take and what you are managing. Anybody behind a shop counter who answers it confidently is guessing with your health.

The required notice, in plain sight

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Everything we sell is a dietary supplement and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Ask a qualified healthcare professional first, and certainly do if you take prescription medication, are managing a condition, or are pregnant or nursing. Nothing in the shop is meant for anyone under 18.

Will this interact with my prescription?

We cannot tell you. Interactions depend on the medicine, the dose, your kidneys and liver, and what else is in the cupboard. Your pharmacist can check it in a minute and it costs nothing to ask.

Do you sell anything for weight loss?

No. We also do not stock sports performance lines, ingestible cosmetics, or anything whose own packaging claims to treat a condition. It is a short list of exclusions and we would rather publish it than be asked each time.

Stock and ordering

Why do you not stock the thing I came in for?

Either it is on the exclusion list above, or it did not clear the buying questions: a named maker and facility, a certificate of analysis for the actual lot, the nutrient form on the label, no health claims in the supplier's own copy, and a supplier who will take stock back.

If it fails none of those and we still do not have it, tell us. That is a buying miss rather than a policy and we would like to know.

Can I order without coming in?

Yes. Email info@fruitprobe.com during Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm Central with what you want and where it should go. We confirm the total, including any shipping, in writing before anything is charged, and we tell you the expiry of the lot we are about to send.

The card is charged once for that order and is not kept on file. Confirmation goes to your email straight away and the tracking follows by email once the carrier scans it. Order updates are never sent by text.

How long does delivery take?

Usual time in transit after dispatch
Where it is goingUsual transitShipping
Illinois and the Midwest1 to 3 business daysIncluded
Rest of the continental United States3 to 6 business daysIncluded
Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico5 to 10 business daysFlat rate, quoted before you confirm

Add a business day for packing. Carriers do not count weekends or public holidays, and neither do we when quoting that table. They are the carrier's usual performance, not a promise we can make for it.

What if I get home and change my mind?

30 days from the day you bought it or the day it was delivered, opened or unopened, no restocking charge and no interview. Bring it in or email us and we will send the return instructions the same working day.

Where the mistake was ours, wrong item, damaged, or short-dated on arrival, we cover the return postage too and replace it at our cost. You do not have to argue the point.

Will anything renew on its own?

No. Every purchase stands alone. No card is stored for a later charge, there is no auto-ship, and there is no membership to remember to cancel.

Texts and details

What are the text offers, exactly?

Weekly in-store offers, sent by text, to people who asked for them. That is the whole programme. It is optional, it has nothing to do with buying anything, and skipping it changes nothing about how you are treated.

  • Marketing messages only. Weekly offers and news about what has come in.
  • Never order updates. Receipts, confirmations and tracking always go to your email address.
  • Up to 2 messages per week; frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
  • US mobile numbers, 18 or over. A landline will not work, nor a number held outside the United States.
  • Reply with STOP and they end. Reply with HELP and you get our details. The removal form does the same job.
  • Not a condition of any purchase. The Privacy policy and Terms of sale set out the rest.

What do you do with my details?

We keep what an order needs and the mobile number if you asked for offers. We do not sell personal information, to anybody, at any price.

No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Opt-in data and consent sit outside every other kind of sharing described in the Privacy policy.

Card details are not kept after the charge they were given for. You can ask what we hold and ask us to delete it, at info@fruitprobe.com.
